I feel for you, Scott, as we in the Northwest lost the Seattle Sonics a number of years ago.
I think the ultimate answer is to stop sports teams from being playthings for the wealthy, and truly part of the communities they represent. The Gre...en Bay Packers set the model, with thousands of ordinary citizens owning a few bucks in nominal shares in their town's team. Such an ownership structure takes greed right out of pro sports in Green Bay . . . the players get paid fairly, tickets are priced reasonably, and the town gets a team it can truly call its own, and everyone knows the Packers will never leave.
It would be truly inspiring if Sacramentans could orchestrate a civic buy-out of Sacramento's team, and show the rest of the NBA, and the nation, how to play ball with cities and fans, the right way. |
